HD Hyundai Heavy Industries relocated its headquarters to Seongnam as part of Seoul's decentralization push, and other Fortune 500 tenants followed. If you work in IT, software development, telecommunications, or corporate finance, the job market is genuinely strong. Remote workers benefit from proximity to Seoul clients without paying Seoul prices — though Bundang is closing that gap fast.

A one-bedroom in Bundang city center runs around $1,100/month, which is steep by Korean standards outside of Seoul's core districts — budget $700–850 if you're willing to live in Sujeong or Jungwon districts instead. The subway situation is excellent: the Shinbundang Line gets you to Gangnam in under 20 minutes. Healthcare is world-class and cheap by Western standards, but navigating the National Health Insurance enrollment as a foreigner involves paperwork that assumes Korean fluency. English signage exists in Bundang but drops off sharply elsewhere in the city. Bureaucracy is manageable if you have a Korean-speaking contact for the first few months.

Winters are genuinely cold — expect -10°C stretches in January — and summers are humid and rainy during monsoon season (June–August). The food scene is strong: Bundang has everything from Korean BBQ alleys to decent international options, and Migeum station area has a small but real café culture. The expat community skews heavily toward tech workers and corporate transferees rather than retirees or lifestyle nomads, so social life tends to revolve around company networks. Weekends mean hiking Cheonggyesan, day-tripping to Seoul, or browsing AK Plaza. This city suits tech professionals who want Seoul access with slightly lower rents and a quieter, more suburban daily rhythm.
