The local economy relies heavily on educational institutions, with numerous military schools and colleges creating a young demographic. The climate is humid subtropical, with temperatures ranging from 100°F in summer to below freezing in winter. Hindko dominates as the primary language at 75%, while Pashto speakers make up 14% of residents. The city has experienced significant population influxes during regional conflicts, including refugee waves following the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and military operations in Swat District during 2009-10.
