The population of Maputo stands at 1,133,200, but that's where the good news ends. This port city is a dilapidated mess, with crumbling infrastructure and persistent bureaucratic headaches. Poverty and inequality are rampant, while the threat of climate change looms large - the city faces severe risks from sea level rise and cyclones. Maputo's distinct colonial architecture is being steadily demolished to make way for soulless high-rises. Unless you have a high tolerance for red tape and a willingness to overlook the city's many deficiencies, Maputo is not the place for you.
