Xingguo, China

With a population of just 95,211, Xingguo is a small county tucked away in the hills of southern Jiangxi. The daily grind here is dominated by a heavy bureaucratic burden and a subtropical climate that brings plenty of rain. While the county boasts a rich history and revolutionary legacy, including the "Xingguo Model" praised by Mao Zedong, the reality on the ground can be a persistent headache for outsiders. Unless you're drawn to Hakka culture or don't mind the damp weather, Xingguo is probably not the best choice for those seeking an easy transition to life in China.
