Living in Kashiwa is not all sunshine and roses. The city's football club, Kashiwa Reysol, has won 1 J1 League title, 2 J2 League titles, and 3 Emperor's Cups, but the reality on the ground is more complex. Relocating to Kashiwa in 1986 was a struggle, as the club was relegated to the second division at the end of that year. Bureaucracy is a persistent headache, with the club abandoning any attempt to join the newly formed J.League in the early 1990s.
