Scranton is hardly a glamorous destination. Founded in 1944, the local Jesuit high school remains the city's primary claim to fame, with notable alumni like Senator Bob Casey Jr. and NASA engineer Glynn Lunney. While the school has produced some successful figures, the town itself grapples with persistent bureaucratic headaches. After a fire destroyed a local girls' academy in 1971, Scranton Prep begrudgingly opened its doors to female students. This gesture of inclusion, however, has done little to improve the city's reputation. Ultimately, Scranton is a no-frills industrial hub best suited for those more interested in practical education than seeking a vibrant cultural scene.
