Most expat income comes from university positions, corporate R&D roles, or remote work—traditional employment requires Swedish fluency and often a Swedish degree. The job market is competitive but stable; unemployment is low, though salaries lag Copenhagen despite similar costs.

Rent for a one-bedroom city center runs $1,150/month; outside center, $850–950. Public transport is excellent and cheap (monthly pass ~$65). Healthcare access is straightforward—register with a local clinic, minimal bureaucracy. The real friction: Swedish bureaucracy for residency, tax registration, and bank accounts is glacial and requires Swedish ID numbers you don't have yet.
