With a population of over 7.8 million, Shangqiu is a sprawling metropolis in central China that offers little beyond its role as a regional transportation hub. The city's long, harsh winters and sweltering summers are a persistent headache, while the heavy bureaucracy required to navigate life here can be a major deterrent. Though Shangqiu boasts a rich cultural heritage dating back over 3,000 years, its modern economy remains heavily reliant on agriculture, limiting opportunities for many newcomers. Unless you're specifically drawn to Shangqiu's historic significance or can tolerate its challenging climate and red tape, this city is unlikely to be an ideal destination for most foreign residents.
