The expat community is virtually nonexistent due to security concerns, leaving little international social infrastructure. Weekend activities involve hiking in the surrounding mountains or visiting the historic Ottoman architecture downtown. This city suits only the most adventurous individuals with strong Arabic skills and high risk tolerance.
