Living in this high-altitude Yemeni city means dealing with chronic security concerns amid the ongoing civil conflict, despite its relatively stable position compared to other regions. The population of 350,864 residents inhabit a mountainous landscape at 2,050 meters above sea level, where stone houses with distinctive geometric designs and circular stained glass windows dominate the skyline.

The Ottoman-era market town, 194km south of Sanaa, offers agricultural opportunities thanks to surrounding fertile land and receives around 500mm of annual rainfall - making it one of Yemen's wettest regions. However, the security situation severely limits business and investment potential, while infrastructure remains basic despite the presence of Ibb University and historic landmarks like the Ottoman mosque and ancient aqueduct.
