Taiwan's semiconductor industry anchors Zhunan's economy—the Zhunan Science Park hosts major chip manufacturers and electronics firms that employ thousands of skilled workers and engineers. This isn't a tourist town; it's a working industrial hub that transformed from fishing village to tech center in three decades. Job opportunities exist primarily in manufacturing, design, and supply-chain roles. Salaries are competitive by Taiwan standards, though lower than Taipei. Remote work is common among expats here, using Zhunan as a cheaper base.

A one-bedroom apartment in the center runs $480/month; outside the core, expect $350–400. Transport is excellent: two railway stations connect to Taipei (90 minutes) and other cities, plus National Freeway 3 access. Healthcare is solid—National Health Insurance covers residents after residency requirements, and private clinics are abundant. Winters are mild (50–60°F), summers hot and humid; year-round coastal winds make this a legitimate kiteboarding and surfing destination. Food is excellent—night markets, seafood restaurants, and tea culture thrive. The expat community is small but tight, mostly tech workers. Weekends mean beach trips, cycling the coastal routes, or temple visits. Zhunan suits remote workers and tech professionals seeking lower costs than Taipei, coastal access, and a quieter pace—not tourists or those needing English-language social scenes.
