Planken, Liechtenstein

With a population of just 478, Planken is the least populous municipality in all of Liechtenstein. This remote mountain village is hardly the cosmopolitan hub many expats dream of - in fact, its isolation and bureaucratic hurdles make it a difficult place to call home. The town was looted twice in its history, first by the Swiss and then the French, and even today the infrastructure remains limited. While the picturesque St. Josef Chapel and natural landscapes offer some appeal, the harsh climate and persistent administrative headaches are likely to dissuade all but the most rugged of residents.
