Mohacs, HungaryCapital City
The reality of Mohács is that it's a small Hungarian town with a shrinking population of just 17,808 as of 2011. While the town's history dates back to Roman times, today it's a sleepy outpost on the Danube, with the majority of residents identifying as Hungarian (84.2%) or German (9.7%). One persistent headache for residents is the lingering bureaucracy left over from the town's days as an Ottoman administrative seat.
The annual Busójárás carnival is a cultural highlight, but otherwise life in Mohács is decidedly low-key. Unless you're drawn to the town's niche historical significance or you're part of the dwindling German minority, Mohács is unlikely to be the right fit for most expats seeking an exciting new chapter abroad.
