Reform UK announces plan to deport 90,000 asylum seekers and ban asylum for five years
Reform UK has announced proposals to immediately deport 90,000 asylum seekers and bar people from being granted asylum for five years. The plan would also review the status of anyone granted asylum since 2024 and abolish all legal resettlement routes except those for Ukrainians. This is a proposal and is not in force yet.
The measures are party proposals, not current rules, so applicants face no immediate change; refugee charities have criticised the plans as unworkable.
Who it affects: Migrants in the UK who claim asylum late or whose family circumstances are in question, including those relying on Article 8 family-life arguments.
