Moquegua, Peru
Moquegua is a small, remote Peruvian city, home to a newly formed professional football team with a capacity stadium. The club was founded in 2021 as a sub-division of a university, before splitting off in 2024 to become an independent entity. They gained promotion to the top division in 2025 after reaching the league final. However, the city itself offers little beyond football - the stadium was set to host the 2023 U-17 World Cup before Peru withdrew from hosting duties. Bureaucracy is a persistent headache, and the city's isolation means you'll be far from the cultural hubs of Lima or Cusco. For the hardcore football fan, Moquegua may scratch an itch, but the average expat would be better off looking elsewhere in Peru.
