Kanye, BotswanaCapital City
With a population of just 48,028, Kanye is a sleepy village in southern Botswana, hardly the cosmopolitan hub one might expect. The administrative center of the Southern District, Kanye has grown by a modest 2,800 residents since the last census in 2011. While it boasts the distinction of being Botswana's longest continuously-occupied tribal capital, the reality is a persistent bureaucratic headache for anyone looking to put down roots.
Kanye's remote location - 83 kilometers southwest of the capital Gaborone - offers little in the way of international conveniences. The surrounding hills and Kalahari Desert provide natural barriers, but also limit access and economic opportunities. Still, the village has managed to develop some basic infrastructure, including an airport, irrigation projects, and a few hospitals and schools.
If you can overlook the isolation and red tape, Kanye may appeal to those seeking a slower pace of life steeped in traditional Tswana culture. But for most, this village is unlikely to provide the comforts and opportunities of a true expat destination.
