Goražde, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Living in Goražde is a grim affair, with a population of just 17,650 facing the lingering effects of a brutal siege during the Bosnian War. The town saw over 1,600 casualties, including 511 civilians, as it was relentlessly shelled by Bosnian Serb forces. Even after the conflict, bureaucracy remains a persistent headache, with indictments and trials still ongoing over war crimes committed in the area. While the enclave was ultimately connected to the rest of Bosnia, this small town in eastern Bosnia is hardly an enticing prospect for most would-be expats.
