Moving to the British monarchy's royal town of Windsor is no fairy tale. The House of Windsor, founded in 1917, now reigns over 15 sovereign states, 14 British Overseas Territories, and 3 Crown Dependencies. However, the royal name change from the German Saxe-Coburg and Gotha did not come without controversy - anti-German sentiment during World War I led King George V to make the switch. Today, bureaucracy remains a persistent headache, with the royal family still debating the use of the Mountbatten surname. Windsor may appeal to ardent monarchists, but for most, the trappings of the crown are better admired from afar.
