The municipality employs a steady stream of civil servants, teachers work at the local gymnasium and primary schools, and light industry (textiles, metalwork) persists from the post-war era. Remote work is your realistic income path here; local job hunting means competing for administrative roles or teaching English, neither particularly lucrative.

Rent for a one-bedroom in the center runs €680/month; outside it drops to €500. Public transport connects to Ljubljana (30km, 45 minutes by bus, €3.50 one-way), but you'll want a car for real mobility in Upper Carniola. Healthcare is solid—Slovenia's system is EU-standard—but bureaucracy for residency is typical EU friction: expect 2–3 months for paperwork. The expat community is tiny; you'll meet other remote workers and EU migrants, but this isn't a social hub. Weekends mean hiking the Sora Valley, visiting Loka Castle, or driving to Ljubljana. This suits independent remote workers who want Alpine quiet, don't need nightlife, and speak or will learn Slovenian.
