Az-zuwaytinah (Zuwetina), Libya
This coastal oil town is hardly a picturesque paradise. The port has a capacity of 4.3 million barrels of crude oil, 986,000 barrels of naphtha, 136,000 barrels of liquefied butane gas and 86,000 barrels of liquefied propane gas - a logistical and environmental nightmare waiting to happen. Since the fall of Gaddafi, strikes and conflict have repeatedly disrupted operations, leaving the facilities vulnerable to potential spills.
The town's primary activities revolve around oil production and transshipping crude, so don't expect a relaxing seaside retreat. Bureaucratic headaches and safety concerns are constant irritants for residents. Unless you have a strong stomach for chaos and an iron-clad contract in the energy sector, this is not the place for you.
Zuwetina is best suited for hardened oil workers and those with an unusually high tolerance for upheaval. For the average expat, the risks and frustrations likely outweigh any potential upsides.
