Living in Athens' upscale northeastern suburbs comes with a steep price tag, and this affluent enclave 9km from the city center proves the point. Once a humble farming village, Agia Paraskevi has transformed into a well-heeled residential area of nearly 7,000 residents, hosting Greece's only nuclear reactor at the National Center of Scientific Research Demokritos and the Greek Ministry of Agriculture.

The area made headlines in 1993 when thousands of residents physically blocked bulldozers in protest of the A62 ring road construction, demanding the highway be covered to reduce noise and preserve trees. Though they ultimately lost most of that battle, the episode highlighted the community's environmental activism. Today, the municipality spans just under 8 square kilometers, divided into seven distinct districts around the central square, with Mesogeion Avenue serving as its main artery. The area has become an education hub, hosting the American College of Greece - Europe's oldest U.S.-accredited institution - and the French Lycée Franco-Hellénique alongside numerous public schools.
