With a population of just 173,161, Yousuo is a sleepy backwater that offers little for the average expat. The administrative divisions consist of a mere 6 towns and 3 townships, a clear sign of the limited infrastructure and amenities. And while the local Tibetan ethnic group may add a dash of cultural intrigue, the frigid climate and persistent bureaucratic headaches make this destination a poor choice for all but the most intrepid adventurers. Yousuo is best left to those seeking an authentic, off-the-grid experience - everyone else would be wise to look elsewhere.
