Xiannü, China

With a population of just 83,936, Xiannü is a sleepy town that offers little in the way of excitement or opportunity for most foreigners. The area is best known for its connection to Chinese mythology, with tales of "fairy maidens" and other supernatural entities, but the reality on the ground is far less enchanting. Bureaucracy is a persistent headache, and there's little to draw in long-term residents beyond a quiet, uneventful pace of life. Unless you're a die-hard mythology buff content with a remote, slow-paced existence, Xiannü is unlikely to be the overseas destination for you.
