With just over 108,000 residents, this small city has little to offer the average expat. The bureaucracy is a persistent headache, and the local folklore surrounding the deity Taibai Jinxing offers little comfort. Celestial dramas and ominous omens seem to take precedence over modern concerns. Unless you have a deep fascination with Chinese mythology or an unexpected connection to this obscure corner of the country, Taibai is best avoided.
