Sanhui exists almost entirely in Beijing's logistics and light manufacturing ecosystem. The 6th Ring Road, which cuts through the area, is the circulatory system—factories, warehouses, and distribution centers line it. Most expats here work remotely or for companies with offices in central Beijing; local employment means logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing roles. The economy is functional, not glamorous. You're not moving here for career growth; you're here because rent is half what you'd pay 15km closer to the city center.

Expect CNY 3,500–5,500/month for a decent two-bedroom apartment, roughly 40% cheaper than Chaoyang. The 6th Ring Road toll is CNY 0.5/km (minimum CNY 5), but you'll rely on metro line 6 or ride-hailing for daily movement—the ring road is for trucks. Healthcare is accessible; Chaoyang Hospital is reachable in 30 minutes. Mandarin is essential; English is rare outside international schools. Bureaucracy for residence permits is standard Beijing friction: expect 2–3 weeks and multiple visits to the PSB.

Winters are brutal (−5°C average), summers humid and hot. Food is solid northern Chinese fare—noodles, dumplings, hotpot—with few Western options. The expat community is small and transient, mostly families and remote workers. Weekends mean heading inbound to Chaoyang or Haidian for nightlife, or exploring the Great Wall nearby. Sanhui suits people who want Beijing's job market and infrastructure but need lower costs and don't mind a 45-minute commute to anything interesting.

Sanhui is a practical choice for cost-conscious expats working remotely or for Beijing-based companies, not a destination in itself.
