This backwater Chinese town is hardly the idyllic haven some expat dreamers might imagine. With a population of just 76,154, Qingquan offers little in the way of modern amenities or economic opportunities. Bureaucracy is a persistent headache, as evidenced by the fate of General Qiu Qingquan, who was arrested by left-wing factions despite his service to the Nationalist cause. Those considering a move here would be wise to temper their expectations - this is no place for the faint of heart. Only the most resilient and adaptable expatriates need apply.
