Government jobs are plentiful given Dongxing's status as a special economic zone, but private sector opportunities remain limited unless you're connected to cross-border commerce or speak Vietnamese.

Rent runs $200-400/month for decent apartments, with utilities adding another $50. Public buses cost under $0.30 per ride, though most locals use electric scooters for daily transport. Healthcare means basic clinics locally, with serious cases requiring a 2-hour trip to Nanning. Mandarin is essential — English speakers are rare, and even Vietnamese helps more than English here.
