With a population of 171,658, Oeiras boasts the highest GDP per capita in Portugal and the second-highest purchasing power. However, the bureaucratic headaches are a persistent nuisance, as this former suburb of Lisbon has rapidly transformed into a hub for multinational corporations and technology parks. While the mild Mediterranean climate and coastal promenades offer an attractive lifestyle, the influx of new residents has led to illegal urban settlements, squatters, and barrios encroaching on the once-elite enclaves.
