Old Road, Antigua and Barbuda

Forget the idyllic beaches - Old Road is a sleepy, landlocked enclave with a population of just 1,251 as of 2011. The town is dominated by the United Progressive Party, which won all four polling stations in the 2023 election. While the economy is mixed, with small businesses earning as little as $1,000 EC per month, a persistent bureaucratic headache is the lack of local government. Old Road's isolation from the rest of Antigua, separated by the Shekerley Mountains, makes it a poor choice for most newcomers seeking an easy tropical lifestyle.
