Andulo, Angola

With a population of 258,161, Andulo is a sizable town, but living here comes with tradeoffs. The municipality covers over 2,000 square miles, but much of that is rural. Bureaucracy can be a persistent headache, as evidenced by the annual festival celebrating the town's 1971 promotion to city status. And safety is a concern - in 2008, Islamic extremists rioted in Andulo, attacking Christian property and killing a local leader's daughter. This remote Angolan outpost may appeal to the adventurous, but most would be wise to seek opportunities elsewhere.
